Mattress Size Chart India: Single, Double, Queen & King Sizes

India runs on three standard mattress lengths — 72", 75" and 78" — paired with a wide range of widths from 30" all the way to 72". The naming ("Single", "Queen", "King") varies between manufacturers and bed-frame brands, so the safest path is to think in actual dimensions rather than labels.

The standard Indian mattress size chart

Standard Indian mattress sizes. Lengths also come in 75" (190 cm / 6.25 ft) and 78" (198 cm / 6.5 ft) — always confirm against your bed frame's inner measurement.

Single & Diwan range

• Single: 72" × 36" or 75" × 36" (1829 × 914 mm / 1905 × 914 mm). Fits a single cot in a guest room or kid's room.
• Slim Single / Diwan: 72" × 30" or 75" × 30" (1829 × 762 mm / 1905 × 762 mm). Common for diwan-style daybeds and compact urban bedrooms.
• Wide Single: 78" × 36" (1981 × 914 mm). For taller users on a single cot.

Double & Queen range

• Double (Small): 72" × 48" or 75" × 48" (1829 × 1219 mm / 1905 × 1219 mm). Suitable for couples in compact bedrooms; tighter than a Queen.
• Queen: 75" × 60" or 78" × 60" (1905 × 1524 mm / 1981 × 1524 mm). The most popular Indian master-bedroom size.
• Wide Queen: 75" × 66" (1905 × 1676 mm). Slight upgrade for couples who want extra elbow room without going King.

King range

• Standard King: 75" × 72" or 78" × 72" (1905 × 1829 mm / 1981 × 1829 mm). Six feet of width — true King size.
• Indian Super-King: 78" × 84" (custom-order on most brands). Reserved for very large primary suites.

How to pick the right length

The length of your mattress should match the height of the tallest person who sleeps on it, plus a buffer of 4–6 inches for pillow and head clearance.

• Up to 5'8" tall → 72" length is fine.
• 5'8" to 6'0" → 75" is the sweet spot.
• Over 6'0" → 78" is recommended.

If you are even slightly above average height, do not save ₹500 by sizing down. A 72" mattress for a 5'10" sleeper means feet hanging off, head pressed against the headboard, or both.

How to pick the right width

For a single sleeper, 36" is comfortable, 30" is tight, 48" is generous. For couples, the rule of thumb is that each adult needs at least 30" of personal width. So:

• 48" Double = 24" per person → cramped for two adults.
• 60" Queen = 30" per person → workable, the Indian default.
• 66" Wide Queen = 33" per person → comfortable for restless sleepers.
• 72" King = 36" per person → spacious, ideal if a child or pet joins occasionally.

Measure your bed frame, not the label

The single biggest sizing error is buying a mattress to match the bed-frame's nameplate ("King", "Queen") instead of the inner dimensions of the frame. Bed-frame manufacturers do not all use the same labels. A "King" frame from one brand can be 72"×72", from another 75"×72", from another 78"×72". The mattress that fits one will bow or float in the others.

The right method:

1. Strip the bed frame down to its base.
2. Measure the inside length and width of the frame, edge to edge — not the outside.
3. Round to the nearest standard size. If you fall between sizes, go with the smaller one — a mattress that is too tight will distort over time.
4. Note the height of the frame's lip (the wooden edge above the base). Your mattress thickness should sit at least 1" above this lip for comfortable seating.

If the frame and mattress disagree by more than half an inch in either direction, the mattress will sag at the edges within a year.

Custom sizes are easier than you think

Mattress thickness — a quick note

Width × length tells you the footprint. Thickness — typically 4", 5", 6" or 8" — is a separate decision based on body weight and feel preference. A thinner mattress is fine for kids and guest rooms; an adult primary bed should be at least 5", and ideally 6" if either sleeper is over 90 kg.
